Default locking wheel nut key

Hi I was taking my tyre of s40 2.0d sport 2005 when the locking wheel nut key slipped and broke the 5 point star design inside the key to grip the nuts. Do volvo have carry these in the parts dept and do you no the price of one. Otherwise is there a method of removing them without a key. Thanks

They'd use one of these or similar

May be cheaper to buy & diy!!
Or try your local tyre dealer who will often have same problem

That wont work with these parcel of crap things. They have a spinning stainless steel collar to prevent using a socket.

Ask me how i know?

This guy is is in for a REAL hard time. Once they are off DO NOT REPLACE THEM!

There should be a document with the car handbook giving the code for your key so that you can order a new one

I guess the original selling dealer may have it on record

The web site is www.wheellockkeys.com/volvo

The phone no on my document is 0080025993400
e-mail cs@mcgard.de

The cost of a new key is currently 18 euros

Wow this is interesting thread. Ive had major grief with the volvo locking nuts on my s40 this week.

I had 4 tyres this week and the garage phoned me and asked me go go down as they wanted to show me somthing.
When I got there it was apparent that the last person to put the locking nuts on had done so with a 400 foot long bar, as they were completly rounded off.

Long story short, they run out of ideas and had to resort to gas cutting them off. They are a respectible garage and had no luck using and other method of extraction.
The results being I now have 4 scorched medusa alloys and four new studs on order which will need fitting. The car only went in for a service!

I'd have drilled them out before i resorted to the gas! Locking wheel nuts are a complete torture. Peugeot ones are even worse! Note to everyone! Take them off!!!

Makes sense to ensure the locking nut/bolt is first removed from the wheel and the last installed.
This way the other bolts take the strain.
Of course over tightening them will always be the problem.
It's not a case of which brand is best, it's how you use what you have!

Alternatively you can find wheels with bolt covers that lock.
But quite pointless to the determined as they're usually plastic!

Is there such a thing as a sure fix ?????
I don't think so!

I have just picked up my 18" OZ Superturismo's and I'm dreading leaving them on without locks.

I've come to the conclusion that the best fix is to have a spare set of standard bolts and put them on whenever the car is going near a garage or tyre fit depot

When it's back home, replace the locking nut at half torque yourself using a torque wrench

Any sign of wear on the key or the bolts, replace

But, handled gently, these things are ok

Let us know if your new key manages to remove it. I would also make sure that all others are free in case you get a puncture.
