Afternoon folks

So. Having won a nice Alpine head unit on the bay of evil last night I started to think of a new project for my 90 740 Turbo. I mainly bought this unit for the RDS Traffic when I'm wandering about but got to thinking it would be nice to put a proper stereo in the car.
I'm thinking of the Alpine head unit (as it's period to the car) which I'll only use the radio and my iPod transmitter connected to an external amplifier and new speakers. Has anyone done this and if so what components did you use and how did the install go. I don't want anything that doesn't look like it should have been in the car around when it was new.

Cheers

Not sure of the age, probably very early 90s, was an expensive piece of kit back in the day by all accounts, aint been able to use it but with an ipod should be ok

I have got a little ipod transmitter about the size of a matchbox, just tune radio into it

That looks like a nice one, have you got a bigger shot of the loom? Some of them are worth a fortune now.

I will be going through the process of fitting new door speakers, amps and subs to my 740 this winter. One of the issues i have found is the depth of the door and fitting decent speakers.

My current plan is to have two 15" subs in the boot, possible two 10's as well then an 8" sub in the bottom of the door with the mid range moved down and right of its current position. The tweeter can then sit on the blanking plate for the electric mirror and be aimed correctly.

You're not kidding - when I got my first Volvo (a brand new silver 1991 940 2.0 SE Turbo auto) I also treated myself to some new Alpine kit - speakers, amps, graphic equalizer and head unit with 6xCD jukebox in the boot. The lot cost nearly £2k including the fitting. Fantastic kit though, just wish I could afford to do that nowadays! Luckily I had my own company back then and I justified the expense as I was driving 30k miles a year.

Does anyone know how I can wire up this Alpine Ive got to work in my 850, It doesnt have any small speaker wires as usual, it has small power, switched power, negative, pwr antenna, dimmer control, audio interupt out, audio interupt in, then 4 sets of phono leads 1 red and 1 white to each set that are labeled as follows, line in, line out rear, line out front, to changer, it also has another to changer lead i recognise as a typical changer lead type socket.

I was told it needs amps to run it when I bought it years ago, it all seems to light up and work etc, I was told it was a competition unit, I would love this wired up in my 850 linked up with an ipod but need to know what i actually need to buy, would it be a couple of smallish amplifiers etc? Any help would be great, Iam ok with wiring usual stereos up but never something like this, thanks in advance Steve

PS: It has a little gold logo on the tape flap that looks to read HLTAC

Does sound like a normal receiver (i.e. no amp on board) rather than your typical head unit. To make the most of it I would suggest 2 two channel or one 4 channel amps and new front and rear speakers. If you want to go further then maybe an active crossover and add a sub and amp too. Will take a fair bit of cost and work but worthwhile for a great sound.
If you're just looking for a good setup then put that one on eBay and get another with built in amps then wire that to new speakers.

Have fun.

I have got a top of the range head unit from a couple of years ago, but wanted to use the old skool unit to look good, I do have a brand new crossover although I dont have a clue how all it wires up, would the vovlo existing speakers be no good off say a 2 channel amp ?

Personally I'd (and I shall be once a bit more cash is available) I'd buy one each of these for the front and back:

Speaker adaptor

Speakers
