Default iOS 4.2 Update for iTouch

WARNING- The new update renders your iTouch incompatible with the Volvo interface.... avoid

Did an update yesterday, and now I get 'USB Unreadable' on the car display and 'This accessory is not supported by iPod Touch' on the iPod display....

Very cross as one of the listed fixes of iOS 4.2.1 was great compatibilty with iPod Car interface's ......

I know this isn't an Apple forum, but does anyone know how you revert to a previous OS...? I have this previous iOS 4.1 restore file which must help..?

Would be interested to hear if this is just me i.e. if anyone has performed the upgrade with success.

My iTouch is a 3rd Gen 64GB version from about a year ago, i.e. not the current version with FaceTime and retiner display ...

Default 3GS doesn't work with Volvo either

I updated my 3GS to 4.2.1 today and am now getting the "USB Unreadable" message. Have tried all of the usual tricks but no luck. Have had to resort to my very old ipod in the car now. My XC60 is a MY11 (delivered June '10) with the Premium Sound system.

Lots of other Volvo owners in the same boat posting on the Apple forum: http://discussions.apple.com/thread....art=0&tstart=0

Thanks Gaskit ... Have registered as a developer this morning and posted a bug report... fingers crossed .... meantime I'm in the middle of downgrading back to iOS 4.1 (I have a copy of the restore file if anyone needs it for 3G iTouch - just PM me). The sync will take hours as it was full to brim and 64GB on to a iTouch isn’t fast... :-(

It'll be interesting to see if the new Sensus audio system will be similarly affected. I've already updated my iTouch to 4.2 but the wife's is still on 4.1 and will be staying there until my Sensus-equipped XC60 arrives next week.

In the meantime, anyone able to try a 4.2 iPod with the new S60's Sensus system?

Steve

Just completed the 'downgrade' to iOS 4.1 and it works again as before in the car... phew ... will wait until Apple release a fix (assuming they do!!)

I can concur that my iphone 4 has also gone permanently unreadble since the upgrade yesterday. Now have to find out how to go back a step.

I don't see why it's an Apple bug, their published API for remote operation hasn't changed for years now - but car/radio manufacturers just don't seem to be able to consistently follow them. Look how many times Apple have had to release an issue to fix a car/radio issue compared to how many times car/radio makers have had to issue and update to their systems to support Apple kit. Some makes (I hate to say their name but...BMW) never seem to have problems.

Are you saying that because Apple changed their system and it doesn't work on the Volvo when before Apple changed that it is Volvo that is at fault?

That is how your statement reads to me and if that is the case then you are frankly - talking absolute bo11ocks.

The only item that has changed is the OS from Apple therefore any fault that has appeared has been introduced by Apple, there is no other way logical way to see this. If Apple have to keep issuing fixes to their upgrades then that is not the fault of anyone other than Apple and it shows the poor quality of their pre-release testing and their disdain for their consumers by releasing bug ridden code.
