Unhappy Cold Weather cut -out

Our xc90 D5 ( 600K 2003 ) doesn't like cold weather. Hard to start, will cut out even at normally running temp. Message- engine service urgent- comes up. Restart and message disappears until engine cut out minutes later.

Nothing coming up on system:

Injection system problems or electrical ? Other symptom is the radio goes mad and the dash lights flicker.
Also in normal weather at speeds over 100mph the revs will sink without warning to 750.

Any ideas?

Try changing the fuel filter - seems to be a common issue with the D5 engines. Have done it twice on mine now (81k) as when it has gotten very cold has thrown the same message. Cheapest trouble shooting cure before trying anything else.

Sound slike fuel starvation to me, filter prob easiest to start with. Thenpossible fuel pick up in tank?

If was the common injector problem, IMO it would not cut out once started as it only need the fuel pressure to start it, it will not stave engine once running, hence people get lots of starting problems when injectors wear.
