Default xc60 door locks?

having some trouble with the door locks on my new car, after driving away the doors lock automatically as normal, good, however when we stop and exit the car the rear doors cannot be opened from the outside and stay locked unless they are unlocked agian with the button on the drivers door or the key fob,is this normal?
seems odd if it s a safety feature as the rear passengers are locked in unless the driver opens the door, surely wasting valuable time in an emergency

Do you have child locks?

Do you have child locks? If so they may be on, family pack gives electronic childlocks set on/off by button on drivers windows controls panel, NOTE: this only works while ignition is on and it also stops the windows from being used. Otherwise I would guess they might set by a physical button on each door - somewhere near the lock mechanism.
Once the doors lock after pulling away, on mine, they take two pulls on the interior door release handles to unlock and then open the door - have you tried this?

What you describe is normal. However you can reprogramme it to do something else. This is the same as any other car with central locking - if you lock the doors, you have to unlock before you can open each door from outside.

The rear passengers are not locked in. The doors will unlock if you pull the inside door handles (one or two times, depending on what you have programmed.) If you engage the child locks the back doors will not open from inside.

we have the manual child locks not the electronic one with the family pack, tried it with or without these on,same result.
I know about the double pull to open the doors after the automatic locks have come in but the child locks stop this dont they?

Yes this is normal.

Once the doors lock automatically, no door can be opened from the outside.

You either use the button on the drivers door, to unlock every door, or open them individually, from the inside. Or with the fob.

There are good and bad, about auto locking doors.

Example of good:-
Women, driving on her own. Where does a women normally put her handbag?
On the passenger seat.
Stopped at traffic lights, the locked door, prevents yob, from opening door and snatching handbag.

Example of bad:-
If incapacitated, emergency services, would need to break a window.

I think I would rather be secure/safe and pay for a broken window, if need be.

If concerned, you could go into the menu and disable, auto locking.

this is the first car i've had with this 'problem',had an audi A4 before and this did not have this issue, once the auto locks come in,the car doors Can still be opened form the outside without the key fob, just a pull on the handle outside, the auto locks must disengage when the ignition is turned off,

The Merc's that I had, were similar to the Volvo, only difference that I can remember, the doors were supposed to unlock, in the event of an accident?
