Default HELP!! The Dreaded "Anti Skid Service Required" has struck!!

Hi All, well it has just happened to me, the dreaded "Anti Skid Service Required" warning light has come on in the dash. Taken the car (2006 V50 2.0D Sport with 41,500m) to an independant Volvo garage which identified 4 fault codes and said the car has to go to a main dealer to be fixed.

I have read on the Forum that there may be a problem with some module or other that causes this problem of which Volvo are aware and subsequently have either fixed it FOC or made a very hefty contribution towards it. My local dealership says "There are no known faults with the system". This to me sounds like a very defensive stance without any investigation being carried out to say the least but then again that's just Main Dealer mentality isn't it?

I would love to know how many members have had this problem and what the outcome was. What was the cost or did Volvo fix it for free? Did you get a nice juicy contribution towards it?

Thanks for your help,

Lee

Thanks for the reply, is/was your car still under warranty? I've been told it may be the ABS module but will have to wait and see on Friday when it goes in for diagnostics.

Default anti skid service

Any one who has the dreaded "Anti skid service reqd" that reqs ABS module replacing and can not get it fixed by volvo check out ECUTesting.com. These guys refurrb you old module and give you a 2yr gurantee as well and all for £250, obviously you need the garage to take it out and update the software ( quoted £600 all in) but thats half price of Volvo. I take mine tomorrow to see if Volvo will do mine FOC if not thats the route i am taking

What were the fault codes?

I had this and the car was in the garage almost 3 weeks trying to diagnose the problem, that included refurbishing the ABS module, the report came back and said it was in good condition.

Took a 30 minute software upgrade one morning tried on a whim, been fault free ever since.

Can't remember the fault codes now as I only saw the paper quickly and wasn't given a copy. The top fault was something like "steering wheel out of alignment".

Where did you get your 30 minute software upgrade done?

Dealership in Glasgow. Took the car in at about 12, they called soon after and said it was repaired.

Latest update;

Took the car into my local main dealer today and they say it is the Brake Control Module and will be £800 to fix. Luckily I have one of the cars that has a known problem (only certain chassis numbers are affected apparantly) and Volvo UK are going to fix it free of charge, how happy am I?!!!!!!!

Hi, we had this and were quoted £1200 + labour to fix it at an independant Volvo garage.
Buth then discovered ECU Testing in Derbyshire: www.ecutesting.com
Our mechanic found someone to read the code, removed the ECU, posted it (recorded) and it was fixed for £219.60 (incl return by post). Mechanic got it all put back and voila!
Volvo weren't going to give anything towards it at all.
we saved a bomb.
