Smile V70 auto box light?

Hi all,

I have a 1999 V70 auto, can anyone tell me whether the gear selector should be lit along with the dashboard etc ie headlights on?
It has a red plastic indicator which you can clearly see in the day, just a bit odd it doesn't light up?!

Thanks in advance

As above, yes it should light, you need to lift up the centre colsole a few inches to get at it, from the driver's side. Haynes is also reasonably good on how to get the centre console out, but in fact you don't need to take it all the way. I've done this job, not too hard.

I couldn't find a cheap general purpose replacement bulb though, got it from Volvo in the end - although I didn't look all that hard.

Are the SEW mode buttons meant to illuminate?
The one that is selected lights up but the 3 buttons aren't actually backlit.

Yes they are, if they don't it's likely the 'UP' arrow in the speedo doesn't light either.

Try putting the gearlever in L 2 or 1, or press 'W' the 'UP' arrow should light.

Replacing the 'UP' arrow lamp should get it all working again.

Are you sure Chris? He's talking about the backlighting, not the light that comes on when you press the button (which he says is working). They're not back-lit on my '97 V70

Cheers you two.

Yeah, the indicator arrow on the dash does work when in a low gear or Winter mode. Just that the three buttons aren't illuminated.

Strange if they not meant to be, that's why I asked.

Yeah, that's what I thought - a little bit of cost-cutting that you wouldn't expect on these models eh?
