Amazing what an oil change can do
Hi
When i first got the volvo back in January, Me and a mate serviced it and put the £5 for 5 litre oil in. now at this time, i was just planning to keep the volvo for throwing around the lanes at the weekend but then it was soo good, i decieded to keep it as a daily driver. Ive been meaning to ask my mate to change the oil for a month or so but this afternoon, we finally got round to it, and my what a difference. The instant we drained the old crappy oil and added my Castrol GTX Magnatec, started it up, and it instantly sounded less "lumpy" on tickover. It used to sound like a bag of nails, but now it sounds quite respectable. I guess over the coming winter months, some decent oil wont go amiss anyway. But i was amazed at the difference an oil change makes. Im sure its not jusat all in my head, it has made a genuine difference to the tickover of the engine, and all in all it just runs smoother. All that remains now is to buy the bits and bobs 740Estate recommended to me in another thread, and get the engine tuned up properly at a garage, and i should have a sound running 740 I also popped into volvo this afternoon and bought a genuine volvo oil filter. Not sure how much difference this will genuinly make, but i thought for £8, what the hell, its worth it. One of my mates asked why i go to the trouble of changing the oil so often. He said "Its an old volvo, run it forever" but thats exactly what i want it to do, run for as long as possible, its served me well up to now. Also had 2 new rear tyres today, as the one had a slow puncture, and it was a bit scary on the way back home yesterday evening in the wet with a tyre at about 17PSI £80 all in for the 2 rear tyres which i didnt think was too bad. So all in all, A good day for the old tank

If you have a branch of German, Swedish and French or Euro Car Parts near you, you can get genuine oil filters for much less than you would at a dealer

Dont really have a GSF by me but the change was done on the spur of the moment thing yesterday, so I had to get the filter from a dealer.

The dealer I went to for an oil filter the first time that I changed The Volvo's oil didn't have any in stock (!) so I had to wait a day to get one. Conversely, GSF always have them in stock...
