Retrofitting Bi-Xenons..
Ok, so my car has std halogen headlamps, and I've read on here that the Bi-Xenons (reflector type) and also the later "eyeball" type ones are a direct retrofit, but that you get a "bulb failure" message on the dash...
So, I've sourced a O/S reflector type Bi-Xenon, and plugged it in, lights up briefly, for around a second, before shutting off and giving the "dipped beam bulb failure" message on the dash... Flicking switch off and on again (I've turned off the headlamps on the "0" setting using Vida as it was eating H7's) results in same, lamp lights and then shuts down. Now I've had the lamp off the car and put 12v direct to the ballast, and it works perfectly, so can anyone tell me why it's shutting down? Incidentally, the cheap, "can-bus" compatible HID kit that I bought, intending to fit before I decided to swap the whole lamps, works fine when plugged into the bulb connector on the original H7 headlamp, and DOESN'T give an error or shutdown.... Do I just need a load resistor?? Mike |

Yes, I think you need a load resistor.
Although im sure someone will be along to confirm shortly

I'm not 100% certain but isn't there a setting in VIDA for halogen/HID headlamps?

Thats a shame
Maybe they need to be programmed in via VIDA.... as in the car told that they are there? That would be a dealer or tooled up INDY only job.

I'm sure several members on here have done this without problems? ?
Just having a play with VIDA/Dice, and using the activations in the CEM, I can turn on the Bi-xenon and it stays on... Also does not bring up the error message.. Very strange.. Mike Last edited by Ducklakeview; Jul 29th, 2015 at 17:07. |

And to add to this, once I'd turned it on with VIDA/Dice, and unplugged the interface, whereupon the lamp turned off... I could then turn it on/off at will using the light switch, and NOT getting the error, until I turned off the ign... Very strange... I'm also not convinced that the "load resistor" will do the job, as surely putting a 6 ohm resistance between the 12v feed to the ballast and ground will do nothing if the resistance of the ballast is less than 6 ohm (with electricity taking the "route of least resistance" etc) as I calculate the resistance of the 35w ballast to be around 4 ohm... So I may try piggy backing a 21w bulb across the feed to see if that does the trick.. Mike |

Bulb in circuit
All I did on my 90 was to fit a bulb holder into the circuit and put a 10 watt bulb in it solved the problem.
