Default S40 T5 Piranha Discs & Pads Review

Hey guys thought id post up a little review as I have replaced all discs and pads on my car with some brand new Piranha discs and pads, I think they are a sub brand of MTEC but I have not seen many online reviews so I will post on up here.

Full set of Discs and pads costed me £208.99

Pads are nice Mintex pads and the discs come in a beautiful black coat, which I thought stayed black but they turn silver slowly as you use them more (So if you get them, take a photo with the black discs while they last!)

anyway I didnt order through the site and found a contact and wanted to make sure I got some drilled and grooved discs and this is their response below

"We can provide the discs in the drilled and grooved, dimpled and grooved, drilled only or grooved only design at no additional cost."

anyway since getting them on my brakes feel incredible! (After having to bed them) I was always thinking of doing the upgrade to 320 but there doesn't seem to be a point really unless i am just doing track days. discs look really nice (Even if they are back to the normal silver color) but there is no fade or anything and feel pretty dam good.

Might be a little biased but along with the brakes ive replaced all tires with some nice Toyo PROXES T1-R 225/45 R17 94W XL BSW

Wheels are down sized to 17's for lightness but tires are super trippy and stopping is amazing. Tred pattern also looks really nice

.... all set for Nürburgring

I used to have Proxes T1-R and the grip was the best of any tyre I have used. Unfortunately though they lasted a mighty 5,000 miles and wore really heavily on the shoulders despite the pressures being standard and the tracking being fine.

You may want to run them at the ECO pressure of 36 rather than 32 as it might help the shoulder wear.

Thanks for that Ianmd, yeh I was thinking that ... but for track would it be good to drop back down to 32 as im looking for optimum grip. for the price I think they are very good on grip, im not so worried about how long they will last as I will have my winter tires on as it gets a little colder.

Re: Tyre wear, I don't experience any unusual or rapid tyre wear on my T5. I believe the rear IPD bar and the front strut brace do a lot to save the tyres as well as a Hunters 4-wheel alignment once every 12/18 months.

I don't push the front tyres, or demand too much from them but I regularly get 15,000 miles from the fronts and they wear evenly.

Good review on the brakes there, will bear that in mind when mine wear out.

Nice response there

I also have the Proxies on the rear and hate them in the wet. I was going to get them for the front but ended up buying Uniroyal rain sport 3 tyres that are brilliant in the wet and in the dry. The toyos are on the rear and tends to kick out a good bit on round abouts and corners - had the brakes kick in a few times to save me although it did start getting fun! I do have a whiteline rear arb thats on the stiffest setting though
