Default Fitting a replacement windscreen

Over the years the subject of windscreen replacement has been raised. As I have said before it pays to shop around for prices. Usually your local independent will be cheaper. Many 240s suffer with some corrosion around the screen area. Before the new screen is fitted the old one needs removing - a job I ususally leave to the experts. Once removed all the adhesive needs cleaning out and the metal repairing if necessary and repainting if bare. A particular point is there are two drain holes at the bottom:

This picture shows it - make sure it is clearand doesn't get blocked. The earlier cars with clip on trims are a particular trap for leaves and dirt which get trapped behind the trim and block this hole causing corrsion to start.

The refitting process is fairly simple. The lip on the aperture is primed as is the edge of the screen:

Adhesive is then applied to the aperture - this again takes skill to get an even width V shaped bed of sealant:

The screen is the bedded on this.

If it is the early screen new trim clips need fitting to the screen to hold the trim. As this is a dirt trap I used the later screen which comes with a rubber seal bonded to it and saves problems with fitting the trim which is easily damaged and provides a flush good seal - a much better job in my opinion.

Our local fitter would charge under £200 for this service which included two visits - one to remove and another to refit at a later date.

Thanks for that Mike - the pictures in addition to your description make it all very clear.
