Engine issues Advice sought
Hi folks, on my way home tonight, sat in traffic for an hour then when I got onto the motorway the car wouldn't go past 4th gear, so I thought it was a gearbox issue but I flicked it into manual and it was able to go through the gears ok but there was a lack of power.
A few miles later I got the engine service due message, when I got home I read the codes which were ECM 3000 CAMSHAFT SENSOR ECM 1540 TURBO CONTROL ECM 1600 BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR ECM 1517 TURBO CONTROL I cleared them let it sit an hour and took it out again and it seemed to be back to itself. Anyone have any advice of where to start the diagnosis process? Would limp mode stop the car going past 4th gear in auto? Thanks Edit, just out a run and problem has reared again with another code TCM-0A31 Control module communication, signal missing from engine. It's a 2011 D5 200hp Last edited by Pauljude; Nov 4th, 2023 at 20:49. |

Thanks Simmy, the date stamp on the battery is 22 which Is before when I bought the car, I'm not sure if it has a BMS and the voltage readings are nominal both ign on and off. what's throwing me is the combo of engine and transmission codes, is that normal? It drives normal up to 35 - 40mph then its just a limp noodle.
Only thing I done recently (4 weeks ago) was install an aftermarket head unit. However it didn't interfere with the factory wiring into the back of the centre console so I'm reluctant to even consider that's the problem, do the ECM and TCM interface with it? I also installed a dash / reverse cam and tapped fuse 11 in driver footwell think it was for refrigerator or something which my car doesn't have, grounds are all spot on. The only thing out of the ordinary was the heavy traffic. Only have the car since August and it came with 6 months warranty so it will be going back tomorrow to let them sort it, just don't want the usual "it could be this or that" from them. Do you think I should give them the codes I have or just play dumb and let them tell me what they think it is? Thanks |
