Volvo 940 - Auto gear selector lights / fan control switch

Hi Folks,

I am the proud owner of a '95 2.3 (non turbo) 940 s estate which has 155,000 miles on the clock.

Recently all the lights behind the auto gear selector went out and I was wondering how do you replace the bulb or bulbs?

Secondly, the fan switch will only work when it is on the fastest setting. Any ideas? Is replacing the fan control switch adiy job?

I do not know if you have a Haynes manual for this car (No. 3249 if you don't) but the following is from that publication.

1. Remove the ashtray and the centre consold panel in front of the selector.
2. Remove the two screws which secure the left-hand half of the selector cover - one screw at each end of the brush. (These screws may well be hidden by the brush.) Lift off the half of the cover.
3. Remove the holder containing the gear position symbols from the selector housing.
4. The bulb and holder can then be pulled out.

Hope this is clear and is of help.

The fan resistance needs replacing. If you have non-AC heating, just remove the glovebox and there it is, two screws and a multiplug to replace.
