Smile Can I ask for ideas and guidance for my 340

Hi all,
As from my previous post here http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=67088

My 340 is currently badly damaged.the quarter panel can be repaired from what I been told,I have a new wing already, will just need a door and front bumper may need some attention.I dont fancy boosting my already high insurance premiums and as police not very helpfull finding animals responsible I get no crime number.I want to ask you guys if its worth repairing the car myself or just scrapping her,She has MOT until next September 2009.The car has minimal rust issues ,sills are good. How much can I look at paying for such repairs ? or even if i get parts fitted myself what will it cost to paint one side of car?

any help appreciated .

Regards

Mo

Mo, I've seen the pics etc and got the gun out. Makes me happy to be out in the countryside.

From seeing the car before the damage was caused it looks a good one. With that length of MOT to run I would be looking at getting the panels replaced - do what I could myself and then use a local repair shop for the rest. Even without a paint job it would still be a good serviceable motor. Perhaps if 'multi coloured' it might not be such a choice target. If you were keen on the 'breaker' approach it would give you more time to seek out a really good replacement.

Cut the cost of spraying a bit if you can source a same colour door.

Mo, can you get some pics of the affected? I'm just doing some sill work on my 1.7, so will have some pics for you to see what its about at least. Adamsky's offer sounds brilliant though

Probably not of much use but if you wanted somewhere to spray any panels, I have a concrete garage, it is possible to do quite a good job yourself with a bit of practice. I can supply some Merc panels that you can practise on

Having seen that video, I'm very, very sorry (and furious) about what happened. If I can be of any assistance from this end of the channel, helping to locate parts for example, then just say the word.

Hey Mo,

If you do go down the route of repairing, here's some idea's for the panels...

Sill panels you can get pretty easily, Hadrian still make them.

Good second hand door - there's someone selling used panels on V3M, one may even be the right red...

Try Formula Cars for panels too, they have a lot of NOS 300 stuff: http://www.formulacars.co.uk/home.htm. Also a Volvo breakers yeard near bedworth had a 3 door rear quarter panel on their shop wall for ages, contact CHESH740R to see if they have it/what side panel it is/was.
