    RIAT - Fairford

Is anyone heading along to RIAT at Fairford this weekend?

Me and a friend will be there Saturday from early o'clock - Not sure if we will be in the R or a Saxo yet, but if you see the R give us a wave!

Well they got the Vulcan back in the air today after it had to spend a few weeks on the deck getting a pair of engines changed, real shame to have lost two engines as this means no further working spare units, I just hope they can keep it in the air for a couple more seasons.

The MV22 Osprey should be flying and a B2A stealth bomber on static along with a BUFF which are all aircraft you don't see too often in the UK these days - Mike

Have a dig around for the Brazilian Airforce Mirage 2000 fly past of the high court building last weekend, it's on the Tube and shows to very good effect what going through the Mach does to a glass windowed structure - I bet the lead pilot is in deep Sh1T for that pass, impressive though - Mike

Used to attend at Greenham Common many years ago, and in fact was OC rubbish collection after the event one year.

Been to the Sunday evening dinner and prize giving a couple of times also .

                          Happy days.

Got goose bumps watching the video of the Vulcan, reminds me of when one did a very low pass to the RN ship I was on. He was only feet off the water (no height restrictions at sea!!) and the noise as he powered up the 4 engines was music to my ears - followed by clouds of black unburnt fuel of course. Sadly years before video cameras were readily available.

There was a programme on the TV recently about the Vulcan bombing mission to the Falklands, fascinating stuff and no-one believed they could do it AND return safely without running out of fuel. I normally take the urine out of the RAF (it's a Navy thing) but hats off to that mission and several others I can't mention!!
