    Brake grease

I've finally had enough of my rear brakes squealing on light brake applications and turning every head in the car park. I've bought a NOS set of genuine pads which come with 4 teflon coated shims and 4 stainless. Instructions on the box say apply silicone PTFE grease to each side of the teflon shims. There is a Volvo P/N 1161447 for the grease which is probably obsolete by now as the pads have been lying around for years.

I have some mintex ceratec lying around. Would this be a suitable alternative to the Volvo stuff?

    Cheers

That's what the ceratec is apparently designed for. If you want to get a PTFE grease, then try "super lube synthetic grease".

Even brake grease tells you to be careful where it gets.

Never had a problem with the rears except rust and dirt problems, are you sure there is no metal contact?

I once got constant squealing on the fronts due to rust on the carriers after I changed the disks, the rust had grown out towards the disk.

            .

I've recently done pads, discs and handbrake shoes on it and cleaned everything up carefully during the process. The h/b shoes had started to delaminate so I decided to do the lot at once. It's quiet until the pads bed in then it starts squealing. I've popped the pads out a couple of times and given them a quick rub down but I only get a few hundred miles of silence each time.
