The car arrived, engine turned over as if the timing belt was broken, it had no compression. I put some oil in the cylinders and got the compression up, my thinking being the heat had left the cylinders dry. Next was to get a spark, the heat must have fried the dizzy sensor, so whipped the dizzy out of my 740 and fitted it to this one. We now had spark, some compression and fuel. We also had a new exhaust port on the top of the cylinder head which used to be the water inlet. Conclusion was, engine is scrap.
Head gasket from the old engine

So, next was to pull the engine.

I had a good bottom end which was rebuilt with new shell bearings, a good head and the "bolt on" stuff from the 744 was good, out of 3 engines I built a good one.

Now ready to go back in, new head gasket, new rear crank seal, new sump gasket, new timing belt, new injector seals etc etc
Engine in place and gearbox bolted up.

When I tried to start it, it turned over well, had spark but wasn't getting fuel. I discovered 2 fuel pipes fitted the wrong way round, swapped this round the it fired up and ran well.
Only filled with water until I see what water leaks develop and some cheap oil as I intend to change it again after a few miles. Got it out for a drive, engine running well, shame about the rest of it. Brakes juddered, steering was vague at best and half the dash lights don't work.
Got the car up in the air again, the dog helped!! Brake disc on D/S/F was cracked in 2 placed,. caliper was seized, track rod end was knackered, passenger side ball joint was also shot.

New parts fitted last night, along with some new alloys.

Next is to address the lack of dash illumination, the faded rear lights and a good clean and polish.
