    Cat suppliers for 960

Looking for reliable supplier for replacement cat for 1993 960 saloon. Been let down by one company that insists that its product fits the bill but unfortunately it does not fit my car. They have supplied two items with the same part number, both different, neither fit. Anyone help ?

This might help identify which one you've got :

Seems there are only two different cats fitted, as the other person who has replied it depends whether it's a 4 or 6 cylinder.

When one quotes the vehicle reg. full details/spec.should come up. No excuse when one even quotes the engine series number and type of rear axle configuration as well.
FYO it is a 2992cc straight six.

Unfortunately that doesn't account for variants. On my 740 there's three different sets of brakes that it could have fitted and the reg number won't tell you. You need to give them the VIN.

Then again if there's only two and neither of the ones they sent fit...

That's very true Joe and parts suppliers often don't know the correct part for the car, even with all the numbers.

For example i was after a pair of new front discs for mine recently. I had measured them and found they were 285mm (nominal size) x 22mm thick, ventilated. I ordered a pair on ebay and the supplier insisted i supply my reg number, despite the fact i left a message where they wanted the reg originally that i had measured etc and their listing was quoting the right size.
I'd already learned there is some anomaly with my reg (Volvo think it has had a private plate on at some point, perhaps even now as it is F760xxx) so was reluctant to confuse things.
As it happened the supplier insisted that on my reg number i should have 302mm x 26mm ventilated discs! :err: As the calipers themselves wouldn't allow fitment of discs that large or thick, i knew they weren't right. :nah:

They carried on insisting and the price of the discs shot up from £30 delivered (NOS clearance price) to £130 - i "politely declined" (alright, the second word was "Off!") and found another pair on ebay the right size, NOS clearance, £20 delivered.

I've used this example to illustrate that a lot of suppliers don't get it right, even with the reg, VIN, engine code etc. By the same token, my local parts factor has had a 100% success rate so far with just my reg so it shows some suppliers can (and do) get it right.

There are plenty of reasons why the wrong part has been supplied, some of them totally innocent, others not quite so innocent. Have you considered asking Volvo for a cat? Might cost a bit more to start with but should be the right one and even if you decide not to get it from Volvo you'll have a part number you can use to cross-reference to an aftermarket supplier.
            Cheers

I had a similar problem with my 940 - I bought three different cats, all supposedly the right one for my car but none fitted. In the end I went to a custom exhaust centre and had them fit a low restriction 100 cell one. The cat cost £150 fitted to give you a guide price.
