    1997 940 Estate on a Classic Policy?

As per the title really, I'm looking at the possibility of replacing the 940 Estate I've owned for the last 7 or 8 years with a newer V70. Has anyone tried to get a 25 year old Volvo on a limited mileage Classic policy and succeeded?
    Thanks

You shouldn't have a problem. There are several players.

Currently I have my '90 745 with Hagerty on their classic comp limited mileage policy which does not require proof of no-claims and, the '98 V70 T5 CD with proof of no-claims on a limited mileage Comp policy via Sainsbury's Bank Insurance. Both policies are underwritten by major Underwriters and have full breakdown cover plus a couple of extras.

Reading your post again I omitted to say that as far as I am aware for a classic policy you have to have two cars. One on the 'classic' policy and the other your 'everyday' car/driver. So keep the the devil you know in the form of the 940 and buy the V70!

      Bob. :)

Yes, Lancaster insured my recently acquired 1996 940 Estate on a limited mileage classic car policy, got a decent price after some haggling.

I hadn't considered Classic Car insurance for the 940, but to be honest the insurance is only £140 a year or something...

I had a Peugeot 406 V6 Coupe on Classic insurance as it was a bit niche for regular insurance companies, and that was about the same price.
I chose Classic insurance for the 406 as it has limited numbers and parts availability - I didn't want it to be easily written off.
          Current fleet;
          1998 Volvo 940 2.3 LPT (mine)
          2003 Peugeot 406 2.2Hdi ( also mine )
          2019 Citroen C3 ( wife's )

Give Lancaster a try, i've been with them donkeys years now and they have always come up with the best price, despite my efforts at shopping around.
As Bob says, technically you need to have an "everyday" car as well as a classic to get classic insurance but as i pointed out to my insurers earlier this year, both my cars are classics and i dont use an everyday car. As such, got both on classic policies but if they absolutely insisted on me having an everyday car, i'd go and buy something that was worth tuppence ha'penny and a brass farthing, cheap to insure and insure it as my everyday car and then just not use it.
              Cheers

                    Yes! :err:

That sort of comes from an insurance related anecdote. Many moons ago i was buying a Honda Accord Coupe and i went to see my broker (when they were still alive and well and did business in high st "shops") and sat down, told him i needed to change my insurance onto a Honda Accord.

                    "Saloon or hatch?" he asked.
                    "No" i replied.

"Saloon or hatch?" he asked again.
                    "No" i replied again.

"Well what is it then?" he asked, getting a visibly agitated.
                    "A Coupe" i said.

"Why didn't you say?" he sighed.
                    "You didn't ask!" says I.

Probably not as funny now as it was at the time as i genuinely wasn't trying to be clever, just answer his questions.

Joking aside, as far as i'm aware the V70 is Front Wheel Drive or as us rear wheel drive die-hards call it, wrong wheel drive!

Also a lot less space inside than a 7/9xx! Before i moved here my neighbour had an XC70 and would quite often ask me to take some rubbish to the tip or collect something large for him because it wouldn't fit in his! :err:

                      Waiting for our next holiday.....

For the last 18 years we've gone away with a very full car, be it 740/940/960.
We're getting a V70 D4 (purchase agreed last night) as she doesn't like driving the 940, muttering about the steering, manouvering, the bulk and other things. She's been pushing for a replacement and decided a V70 would be easier for her to drive. She drives it probably about three or 4 times a year.
Come next holiday it'll be an interesting decision. Which dog gets left behind or does the 17 year old son stay home alone. To her the V70 is going to be easier to drive as it looks smaller - no matter how many time I tell her it isn't, especially inside.

The V70 will have a much, much larger turning circle, less visibility, harder to manoeuvre, heavier, less room inside and not as good build quality!

                          Yup!
Time will tell, my first thoughts on driving it was the width. It seemed so much wider than the 940 and I love the almost "taxi like" turning circle of the 940, being able to do U-turns where others (and I guess the V70) have to do 3 point turns.
Not sure whether to sell or mothball the 940. Selling will be like taking a loved old dog to be put down.
It's going to be interesting to see how she gets on with the V70, might be back with the 940 after 6 months. It's her idea to change, easier to drive newer car, more safety features etc etc.
Watch this space as they say.

I'd mothball the 940 for at least 6 months if i were you, everything Luke said further up applies and if your wife is complaining it's hard to turn the 940, wait until she finds the oil tanker-like turning circle of the V70!

                              It's a tough call.

I've owned 406s for many years and kinda know exactly what I'm dealing with, but my wife doesn't like them and thinks they are too big....

So after some extra funds came out way we went and looked at a nearly new Citroen - the boot is tiny, there is a screen inside to control the heater/radio/stuff and it's too technical for my liking - but she loves it..!
To be fair it's a better height to get in and out of easily so I'll give it that.

I was hoping she would fall out with the car but no joy - it's here to stay - looks like I'll need to sell either the 406 or the Volvo to fund a Wheelchair access vehicle as a full time car.
