    Brake hose washer

    Hi all,
A mechanic is going to replace a front caliper for me. I'm supplying the caliper and slider kit. He asked about the brake pipe gasket. Is there a washer or something that goes between the caliper and hose? If so, must it be replaced? It's a long time since I worked on the brakes myself.

No washers on them. It is a taper seal as normal with brake pipes

Worth fitting new flexi pipes while you are there

There was a small extension screw fitting on the front original Girlling calipers on my 1995 900 I removed them and put them on my cheaper new calipers and got the old ones refurbished by big red if I ever need them again

The oem caliper and hanger on a 700/745 depends on year, model and, many other Volvo supply variables!

For instance my '90 2lt B200F LH2.4 745 has single feed DBA/Bendix (that was the time when Bendix went to the wall and were bought out by DBA, but nothing changed!) heavy duty 2 pot caliper on 262/3mm non-abs vented discs with no 'washer'.

I am not aware of washers being used. The flexi hose connection is a taper fit to the caliper but, problems can be experienced separating the connection at the fixed brake pipeline end!

Yes Bob I could not separate the brake hose from the copper fixed line mechanic had to replace some copper line on one side

Yup ... when I did mine years ago. Eventually I had to destruct the solid flexi/pipeline connectiion and remake a length of copper line back to the equaliser.

With hindsight and a dremel in-hand I could have cut the joint and saved the cost and effort in making up a new solid copper line!

Hay, ho, that's Volvo ownership and, now I am seriously thinking of parting our 'joint' ways after 33 years!

              Bob :)

There is a stainless steel “adapter”, part number 1329693, between the flexi hose and the calliper. No one seems to quite know what this is for as it seems to be an M10 male thread one end and an M10 female thread the other. It may be there to stop the hose rusting into the calliper.

The other end of the flexi hose there should be a spring clip, part number 999290, to stop the joint rattling in the bracket.

The unions don’t need any washers or sealant either end.

As already mentioned, the union between the existing flexi hose and the solid brake line will be well and truly rusted. Your mechanic will hopefully have techniques to undo these. They are spiteful. They round off as soon as you look at them and explode if you heat them with a torch.

Yes that's what I was trying to explain Forrest.its stainless steel so won't rust good when you come to undo hose
