How much horse can a 940 tow???

I was under the impression that 85% was just a generally agreed sensible rule of thumb rather than a law

The post 1997 license issue, the MAM of the trailer, the capacity of tow car and towbar are surely the only way the police could "have" you weight wise?

One thing I have wondered though, is if your trailer is not plated (ie home made but well constructed) how can they argue any MAM issue? By which i mean, if you have a post 1997 license and are towing a trailer loaded to within your license restrictions, but the trailer is capable of carrying beyond this but is not plated as being so - how can they book you?

Ok have a wentworth estate 155 bhp as you well know.It is not used a great deal as we also have a C70.

Anyway my sister has asked if she could use it to tow her horsebox with her fat massive horse inside!!!

I saw these cars advertised in the 90`s volvo ad with horse box attached...but the towing rec..is 1500kg I think....Ummmm doesn`t seem right to me.... Horses are heavy....

What do you think?? Surely horse and horsebox must weigh alot of bags of sugar....

I would say definitely not recommended; they're good tow cars but that reminds me of the crazy old ad for Range Rovers where it shows one towing this ruddy great boat down the motorway or something!

My beloved only uses our 960 estate for carrying bags of grain and bales of hay, etc. For actually carrying horses we've got a properly kitted 7.5 ton Bedford. and buying a decent truck is a good investment - got to be cheaper than the repairs bills :)
