Does anyone know if there is a way to check what, if any, service record it has?

Depends where it was done, if it was main dealer then any dealer should be able to look it up on their computer. If it was at an indie you'd have to know where did the work and contact them individually.
If it's not main dealer and you have no idea where it was serviced I'd do an online check on the MoT history and try contacting the garages which did the MoT's as it's possible they may have serviced the car at the same time or looked after it in other ways.
Cheers,
John

You should be able to get a very basic service history from your local main dealer - all Volvo franchises send basic servicing data through to the Volvo central database. Its primarily for warranty entitlement verification but I don't think its ever actually deleted. Its just the dealership number, vehicle reg, date, mileage, and type of service undertaken though - no details of additional work or any problems found.
For more detailed info you need to contact the dealership that actually carried out the work.
However, if the work was not undertaken by a main dealer, then there will obviously be no record and you'll have to contact previous owners (list available from the DVLA for small fee).'10 XC70 T6 AWD - Japanese import

I always phone Volvo UK ( I think its Bracknell) and they can give you any Volvo franchised history plus (depending on age of car) original build spec and customer extras ordered.
I was surprised to find that when i bought my 960 ( from a dealer - it was a trade in they wanted to get shot of) it came with just a couple old MOT's and a recepit for 2 tyres. They had it parked up in a corner looking very forlorn.
When I contacted Volvo I was very chuffed to find it had an almost complete history of franchised servicing up to about a year previously.
Bit of luck that!
