    Amazing cabin sound proofing!

Is it just me or did Volvo really excel when it came to sound proofing the cabin of the phase 1 V40?

Ours has a fairly loud exhaust leak (definitely noticeable from outside), but when you are inside driving the car you would never know unless the windows were open.

I must admit that I get some satisfaction from being completely oblivious as the car drives by and people think "what the hell is that!?", whilst I'm hearing nothing but Classic FM.

Joking aside though, I will be getting it patched/replaced when I am paid later this month!

I personally find the soundproofing of the X40s to bequite poor comparing to some of the bigger brothers. The road noise from the front wheel arches and the door is quite loud comparing to other cars of similar size and spec

I was attracted to the V40 when it first launched and took a test drive in a new P1 Diesel as soon as Pilling Volvo in Hemel Hempstead - then my local dealer - had a demonstrator arrive

I did about 5 miles in it. And then steered clear of V40s for a further 15 years as I was so disappointed....

                This reminds me.
I get an annoying rattle from the boot lid. Its a noise as if the lid isn't shut, like it is jiggling when going over bumps. Never had that with a hatchback before. It seems to shut fine and has never had any accident damage. The noise is only really noticeable if riding in the back, but wondered if anyone else had this issue with their V40?

Soundproofing is good for a car in its class and age, but the bigger Volvos are better in this regard, lovely, relaxing places to be! Though I must say the newer P2 V70 my dad has doesn't have quite the same feel to it (everything feels 'lighter') compared to his old P1 and 850.

The P2s are quieter than the P1, with much more insulation underneath the carpets. By comparison my son's V50 T5 is whisper quiet especially at motorway speeds.

I adjusted the catch on the body and it stopped the noise from the back also make sure the back seats are properly locked in place too

Debating taking the rubber stops out and turning them over, no rattles but they look squashed.
