Owners handbook page 110 has a table matching engine to tyre options. If you have a listed option fitted it is regarded as OK, even if the car was supplied with 195/60/15's etc.

For 16's it lists 205/50R16 and in the UK you can use the same size for winter tyres, BUT if you want the best winter performance it's 185/65R15.

The Germans insist on 185/65R15 for the winter tyres for some reason that only the TUV know.

When you buy a pre loved car, get a new MOT done, even if one was done only a few months ago it is worth getting under the car with the wheels off to inspect it.
Once you have a new MOT and fill out the insurance papers correctly, it is very very unlikely any claim would be rejected because of the previous owner. Even if AXA did figure out a way and take legal action, it would be against the MOT chaps business insurance etc.

Just keep a copy of the bill of sale and any adverts from the previous owner, cos if it said something silly like EGR deleted or CAT gutted, then the insurance folks might say you knew it was modded etc.

Even the TUV miss things, like my new pre abused Twingo:
Oil 50K km (Kind of black).
      Rear brake drums badly corroded.
      RHS spring broken.
The worlds most dangerous winter tyres (New).
      AC not working.
      LHS front shock dry.
      Engine underguard tray broken.
Required safety gear (Vest, FA kit and triangle) missing.
(The Honda dealer fixed them all for free cos they failed to provide a serviceable car).

V40 inspection right after a new TUV:
Front discs corroded on the inside near the hub (Very difficult to spot).
Rear discs badly corroded and rear calipers failing (Blind inspector).
Handbrake cable far too rusty to work on one side (It worked if you used serious umpff).
      WHAAAAAT???
      The TUV missed something??
The absolute pinnacle of vehicle inspectorates missed loads of things!!!!
I assume they were all taken out into the forecourt and publicly executed for such atrocities.
