Engine cover on 1.8 bolt question! Going to see a new V40...

Hello! We're going to see a V40 1.8 for my wife tomorrow (I still have a 1.8i that's running superbly).

I know that the VVT solenoid is worth checking to see if it's unplugged, but I don't know what tools to take for the engine cover, or if there's a way I can check it without removing the cover?

(the engine cover isn't the same as mine I guess since I have the Mitsubishi...)

Any help would be ace as usual!!

    :D

It shouldn't have an engine cover on the 1.8, its only the GDI and diesel that I know of that do.

If you want to see the injectors though and belts you need to remove some plastic trim and its a T bit its T20 or T30 I think, I have a range so just pick them up without thinking.

        Awesome, thanks!

I wasn't going to bring torx so that's a huge help!

Regarding VVT; listen for rattle from pulley and check that the solenoid is plugged in, is that correct?

Anything else specific to the 1.8 (non-GDI)?

If it rattles like hell the vvt pulley will be shot. If it doesn't, whip the top covers off and check the vvt is plugged in.

Plugged in and no rattle = winner

When the vvt solenoid is unplugged it usually puts the engine management light on !
