Rear lights phase II on a V40 phase I ?

    Hello,

I'm french, so I'm sorry for the spelling mistakes.

I would like to know if I can set rear lights of a V40 phase II (2000-2004) on a V40 phase I (1996-2000). I love the rear lights of the "new" V40 but I don't know if this is possible.

    Thanks :)

Yes the lights fit fine, you will notice a small black box on the back of the original light that cannot be fixed to the Ph2 light, I think it is for bulb failure signal. I just secured it with a cable tie so it wasn't hanging on the wiring loom.

Yes, the T4 and phase II headlamps fit the earlier phase I cars, you have to modify the wiring for the lights slightly but a lot of people have done this including myself.
There is a guide somewhere on how to do it, I'll try and find it for you.

Could you add a bit more detail about the black box part? Is it a connector that doesn't have a place to attach on the P2 light? Does the bulb failure light stop working if you leave it disconnected? Does the P2 have a different method of checking for dead bulbs or something?

Cant fill much in, but, I had to buy a 'new' light for my '02 plate and it had a box in it, no idea why, it was off a p2, for a p2. I threw it away but i have no idea how it works on P1 cars but even if you get a warning light as long as the bulbs are lit its all good. Its only brake lights!

I have a severe animosity towards lights in my dash that indicate faults, even if there are none. So I'm wondering if fitting P2 lights won't make the brake light error go off, or make the check stop working altogether.

Anyways, the light turns on every time the car starts and stays on until the brake pedal is pressed and I haven't seen a single s/v40 that doesn't do this so far. I'm starting to wonder if this isn't how it should behave. Does anyone have a P1/P2 that WON'T do this and the light will ONLY turn on when a bulb dies?

Me! P2, the warning is only a checklight at start up,like the eml and as to a light out - i never had it.

Yes, both my P1 and current P2. The concept of having to depress the brake pedal to deactivate a warning light is absurd. In fact on most cars I have owned warning lights come on when the brake pedal is depressed, usually a pair on the rear of the car.
