First thing is first..how much fuel is in the tank, as more than half is going to spill, so you will have to drain the tank so you have less than half a tank.
Once this is done, disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected until this guide says so! This is found is the boot, ten milli spanner for the Neg lead.
Then the seats, now this is for the V70 so S80's and S60's will be different(I think). Fold the rear seats down and you need to remove the side bolsters, pull at the top of this, it will pop out, then slide up and out. You can see an orange plug, I guessed seatbelt tensioners? unplug this and undo the thirteen milli bolt under this for the seat, this goes for both left and right hand side.
In the middle of the seats from the boot side, remove the rear carpet section of the boot, rear seats in some cases and put somewhere safe, this lifts up and out.
In the middle you will find a bracket that keeps the seats in place, again thirteen milli bolts, two in the boot side, one under the seat, this will stay in place until the seats are removed. You will see some small clips that attach the seats to the seatbelt on like a bungie cord, just unclip these.
You now need to undo the seat belts, the ones the attach to the C pillars are thirteen millis, the one in the middle is a fifteen milli, these now can all be removed, there is a substantial pin that is in the double seat that goes through the bracket and into the single seat, now the seats can be removed completely
At this point remove the black sound deadening, again put somewhere safe.
You need to vac and clean everything in sight, as any rubbish / debris will go in the tank!!
You should now see two round discs, held in place by ten milli bolts, undo and move to one side, wires are attached, you now have access to the pump that is at the O/S and a second float at the N/S. They are held in place by black rings, these do NOT remove out easily, they have a normal thread and will take some real muscle to remove...unless you have the correct tool, I used the handle to the wife's pasta maker (sshhh!) and a small length of steel tube. Then unplug the two fuel lines and the multiplug. Once these have been removed get plenty of rags as fuel will go everywhere.
Do the passenger side first as this is only a float, lift the white plastic plate up a couple of inch, (no more than) gently, then get a length of washing line or plyable wire and attach it to the yellow plug before you unplug it, then unclip the yellow round disc that attaches to the bottom of the sender unit, you can now remove the sender gently as the float points to the front of the car, wrap in either a rag or put it into a bag so you don't get fuel everywhere.
Now the pump, remove this slowly so fuel drains into the tank and doesn't go everywhere, as you draw this up there are two large clips that need to be pressed in and the float needs to be juggled up and out. You now need to thread the washing line from the passenger side to the drivers side, this so to to re feed the lines and wires back.
Replacement is the reversal of the above, the only thing you need to watch for, is there are arrows in the discs that need to point to the rear of the car. Only when the seats are refitted and PLUGGED back in, do you reconnect the battery!
Tools required...ten milli spanner, ten, thirteen, fifteen milli sockets, improvised tool for removing the black rings, hammer and screwdriver won't do it, loads of rags and a vac!!
