    General: What's it worth ?

    Hi all,

My Dad is wanting to sell his 2004 (54) D5 SE Auto in Black with off-black leather.

He bought it when it was a couple of months old from the Volvo dealer and he's had it ever since (he couldn't part with it!) It's got a full service history and has never been damaged and in fairness to him (he's 72!) it's in very good condition with Electric drivers seat, Air-con, Electric sunroof etc.

It's done 99k miles and I think I'm correct in saying that it has the 163Bhp engine.

He's asked me to sell it for him and I'm a bit stumped ! I bought a 2005 V50 SE Sport 2 weeks ago and I paid nearly £5k for that and It's got to be worth more than that - I would have bought the XC90 myself but I've already got a Discovery 3 and SWMBO wouldn't let me have 2 4x4's !!

I know pictures speak a thousand words but I'm struggling to upload pics :nah:

    Cheers

I just paid £4.2k for a 2 owner 04 plate SE with 99k and fvsh. Bodywork is fairly tidy. I would anticipate a 1 owner car in mint condition be worth 5.5k.

Somewhere around the 5k mark. Maybe a little more, depending on how aggressively you want to price it to get rid.....

        Ok, Thanks.

I'm hoping it's worth more than £5500 because as mentioned it's in really good condition.

I've been looking at numerous on-line from various sources and there are some on there going for £7k or so (he knows it's not worth that much) but it's got to be worth somewhere in-between ?

I don't think you will get £7k, but you never know.

As I said, I've seen them for that much and they were in not as good condition with higher mileage but he didn't think he would get that for it. I was thinking around the £6300 or so would be a reasonable price.

Anyone know how to upload photos from dropbox?

I purchased mine just over a year ago.

2004, had no previous owners, 88K with FVSH from a dealer. Cost was £6500 then with a 3 month warranty. Also had tinted windows and side steps.

I would say £5500 mark sounds right for yours

If I were you I would put it in ebay as a classified ad at 6750 and plan to accept only 250 less than the asking price. Then drop the price by 250 every 10 days or so until it sells. Don't reserve or hold the car for anyone unless a decent (10%) deposit is handed over.

When doing the ad go overboard and describe every thing in good detail, body, tyres, electrics, interior etc. and put as many photos on as you can - this gives people confidence to travel.

Don't get discontented if you don't get any calls for a while - when it sells someone will probably call one evening and buy it the next morning. Most serious car buyers will do that, the last four cars I've sold the buyer has turned up to look, handed over cash or done a bank transfer and then driven it away.

Thanks all, I bought my V50 2 weeks ago on Autotrader and purchased it because of the pictures and it was sooo clean !

I've been quite fortunate over the last few years on selling cars for family members either outside the house or on "bookface". I've just had the car cleaned professionally for him and it's such a tidy car I don't want it to go for peanuts, I'd prefer to hold on to it for a while than give it away. It's been such a good car for him with only 2 rear parking sensors and an inter-cooler needing replacing in that time (it's fared a lot better than my Disco 3!)

                      Cheers
