Other XC90 Problem: Xc 90 transmission noise .

    xc 90 2007.
my xc90 has a noise on the transmission at around1800 rpm,it sounds like a rattling baffle in the exhaust .
everything seems to work fine on the car but this noise seems to come and go .The service manager at my chester rybrook dealership has road tested the car and ha says that the noise is inherrant on some xc90 models ,iam not happy with that response so has any one else had any similar problems .
The vehicle has done 30k and has a full volvo service history, also the rear parking sensors play up when wet and they have checled them twice and they say they are fine but i feel iam being fobbed off by them .
Are there any upgrades on the sensors or on the transmission as i want to get it sorted whilst it is under warranty .

Any suggestions woould be appreciated .

Hi again, my post is right under yours. My symtoms are it jolts very badly, like it don't want to go from 2nd to 3rd. Plus i think strongly a wierd scratchy/grinding noise IS related to it Jolting?

Mine started right from start, the noise 1st for about a-week, then the jolting starts. Which as said, Volvo have witnessed this out on test drives.

But again they are struggling to find exactualy were it's coming from?

My strong mechanical mind seguests...Drive shaft or Gear Box or Tourqe Converter...Volvo have said today, that YES they have added more electrics to the 2010 modles.

I have a 2010 XC90 with the same transmission noise it is at 1750 revs and only seems to appear on a part throttle just coming on and of the power. My volvo dealer has checked for a software upgrade, which was already done and have fitted a noise / vibration damper on the propshaft both have had little or no effect!!!! Its back in next week for the week for them to sort it out!!!

I think you're on the wrong track ,got the same trouble, believe it or not just posted a thread.spent ages at the dealers they spoke to technical.changed vibration damper engine mounts etc but would you believe if you disconnect vacuum line to mounts as test noise nearly disappears??? Software or hardware prob?? I am complaining !!@

Im not sure some dealers no all they need to know about our cars ? If the right software upgrade is done it works. I had the same problem and it is a software upgrade that was introduced last September and it cured my car of which has done 3k miles since without a problem. TMS Volovo Hinckley, Rear parking sensors do play up on most cars when wet, Mine seem to suffer only when the weather is realy bad and direct at the back of the car.

They are saying its a characteristic and yet I have driven others that dont do it!! Particularly the R design 200 bhp version could it be a software thing? Or different engine mounts.Volvo customer services are shockingly bad, never replying to e-mails etc. Shall get the car signwritten and park it up outside Marlow Volvo HQ!!!

Its definately software, my car has finally been fixed. Dont give up keep pestering my car has had a software upgrade and there is no clonking whatsoever!!! The upgrade is a gearbox related one and was not for my chassis / build range so was probably not considered before. my cars build week was two weeks out of the window for this upgrade but it fixed it!!!!!! Check out Lipscomb Volvo Canterbury

Out of interest, do you know what was the s/w upgrade referred to by the dealer? Our 2010 geartronic has been to Harratts twice and they can't get it to make the noise and have no knowledge of anything similar!!! It's back in next week for 2 days of examination and I am going to mention s/w upgrade you refer to but could do with knowing what it is. Any idea of name or reference? How long was yours in for the upgrade?? Thanks

I had the problem quoted in the original post on my 09 RDesign. After 3 visits to the garage (software upgrades ie "cup of tea in the corner") etc, finally on the forth attempt they have installed / replaced a mounting / vibration damper. The noise has gone but now the pedals/steering is vibrating and changing gear is really rough. I think they are on to the problem but I think there is an underlying mechanical problem that needs sorting...will let you know how I get on.

Has anybody had this problem recently as my car is doing the same and has been back to 2 different dealers who cannot find any issue.
