steering wheel slight vibration

hi all
ive got a slight vibration on steering wheel at low speed about 30 mph
there is no vibration going around round a bouts ive tried it few times
i have swopped the front wheels for back seems thats caused it .
is it a trip to my local ATS as they fitted the 4 michline tyres about 2 years ago
the balance weights are still on never had this happen before
any comments most welcome !

I had a problem with this AND heavy braking. Got so bad the steering wheel nearly jumped out of my hands under braking.

Cause was worn wheel bearings that weren't really detectable with hand wobbling while jacked up. Car had done about 150,000miles, was more the left one, but the right one was not great either.

wheel bearing?

hi tony thanks for input take it you have replaced both your wheel bearings
my car on 272000 miles now after 20 years of ownership where did you get your wheel bearing kits from ? if its the problem .the vibration is not there after 40mph .this afternoon i took car to my local tyre man he checked both wheels
1 was only slightly out which he rebalanced . so will see how it feels now driving a 40 miles tomorrow . my car does pick up road bumps etc through it now at this age i had drop bars changed few years ago and thought about getting certain rubber bushes changed on front but i just keep putting it off as its been passing mot for years now have you changed the front bushes yet?

I had my suspension fully rebushed and new ball joints, except for the rear radius arm bush, before the fault occured.

Here is a recent thread discussing the wheel bearing topic. If you have ABS, you will need the hubs. I'd recommend a "premium" branded part costing around £100 each.

I would definately be doing a refurb at that milage; bushes, ball joints, shocks springs, disk guards maybe even caliper over haul, strut painting, lever arm blasting and painting.

Another possibility is bent rims, but the tyre place should have checked for that.

Had slight vibration through the steering of my 97 S90. It turned out to be the rearmost bushes on the front lower wishbones.

With the wishbones replaced the vibration went away.

hi all
went and had front wheels balanced all seem better now thanks for input

It's very unusual to have balance issues below 60mph. I wonder was the wheel or tyre not on correctly somehow, maybe a stone stuck in there or something?

thanks tony for that thought . could have been something like that then as its defiantly better now . as ive never had any front end parts renewed on my 25 year old car except the drop bars on steering could be other things looming up !

The space ship bushhes are a favourite at high mileage Jim, they can cause wheel wobble! Easy enough to change yourself though.
