I did a bit of experimentation with spare springs, cords and bits of wire I had, and came up with this as a really good solution Dave:



... it is pretty unobtrusive and gives just the right force to balance the boot lid.

I'm not sure there was much wrong with the original gas struts - I think the issue was down to the extra weight of the boot spoiler upsetting the balance.

I think this is the long term solution :-)
