Default To Grease or not to grease

Looking at replacing the front drop link arms and bushes on my 940, is it best to grease them or just dry fit?

Also wishing to replace the other rubber bushes on the front suspension, and would like to know what they are called and best place to source?

Comments please Volvo gurus

cheers Wooly

I must admit I never really know if it's best to or not. Initially a bit of grease of some sort probably helps but as soon as it gets dirty it just sits there and turns into grinding paste. I think it's probably better to clean and smooth off the bearing surfaces (if not replaced) and assemble dry as they would have been in the factory.

Where you get the bushes from is really down to cost. Some genuine Volvo bushes are very expensive and the cheap aftermarket ones are poor quality. I've fitted Scantec bushes in the past and had more movement from them than I did with the original 17 year old ones !
I've used Superflex polyurethane bushes in a couple of places and they have lasted well so far. One of these was the big saucer shaped ones on the front lower arms.
