Default ANyone sorted the soot filter with the car stationary?

My 2006 185hp D5 doeasn't get a lot of use. I try to avoid journeys in town by cycling to/from work. However, due to the bad weather I've used it more on short journeys and after a couple of weeks the soot filter full warning has just come on.

Of course, I can do a completely unnecessary journey down the motorway for 20 minutes to sort it. However, just wondered if anyone had cleared this successfully by sitting with the car in neutral, say around 2000rpm for however long it needs? Or is that mad...

Gerry

P.S. Did I read somewhere that there was a software upgrade that made this message much more infrequent?

OK - to answer my own question: no, it doesn't work just sitting stationary.

I had a 15 minute local run in the car, which got it up to a good running temperature, then when I got home I sat in the drive with the revs around a steady 2000rpm. Gave it 15minutes, then waited a bit longer and a bit longer until finally gave up after 30 minutes! Didn't work.

15 minutes on the motorway yesterday sorted it. I guess the engine has to be under load...

I didn't see your post before but can confirm that sitting on the driveway revving the car can't clear the DPF.

Have you considered having it removed?

even if you could generate the temps needed to regen, on your drive, it wouldnt happen now with the ambient temp soo low. my leon FR wouldnt reach the normal temp at all when i worked 5 miles from home. im convinced you could start a diesel on the drive from cold and half an hour later at tickover it wouldnt reach ruinning temp...
hence the regen proceedure is to run it at circa 2500 rpm for min 20 mins....need lots of heat.

I used to dump the gearbox into 2nd at 40mph to clear out my old diesel escort... used to work a treat.

Handy to know though, new to big automatic joy... thankfully the wife's on the motorway for half an hour at leat twice a week, so that should keep that clear!

I have heard that it's an hour at 3000RPM when stationary
