Sat Nav
Hi, Has anyone fitted a pop up sat nav on their dash on a 2003 D5 V70. And a mobile phone extra next to their radio.
Thanks

It's an awful lot of work and will cost you many times more than a decent Tom Tom which comes with free map updates. With regard to the phone, you will have to find a suitable sized SIM and then it will be a different number to your normal phone. A decent Bluetooth hands free to work with your existing mobile will be much more practical.
It you're good at modifying things, you can pick up a second hand motorised screen on eBay, rip the LCD out and fit a Tom Tom in its place. I'll be doing this in my camper van shortly so the sat nav is securely hidden away when not in use. |

Simon, do you know if the motorised screens pop up automatically at ignition on? I had thought of trying this sort of conversion myself.

Mine does if you switch off the car with the sat nav system still running. Otherwise it will stay down until you press the buttons on the steering wheel.
It looks cool but is otherwise almost useless as the cd's are dated 1999!

I've got the DVD based system and you can still get maps, but they're not especially cheap. You can get dodgy copies from ebay or download them for free. Mine is dated 2012 week 20.
The screen is controlled by the digital CANBUS signal, but at the end of the day, stick 12v across the motor and it will go up or down depending on the polarity. |

I have the RTI - DVD system TV and the phone.
I've taken out the TV receiver as it's useless now ready for the IMIV which will enable me to connect a reverse camera/IPOD and DVD player. The screen does pop up and down with the ignition. I use it all the time as it has live traffic alerts. I bought a Giff Gaff Sim card and then got an divert App for my phone. Easy Now when people ring my mobile and I'm in the car it auto diverts to the car. The screen doubles up as a Diagnosis screen as it's on the Canbus. You can look at some systems in the car and see how they're performing. You can also check voltages/speed sensors/engine run time etc etc. I've just updated the DVD for the Nav/traffic. Only costs £29 which isn't too bad.
