I have a 185bhp and I find the power available is fine for my motoring needs - not a rocket but neither a slouch.

Geartronic is much more popular in the UK than manual transmission. It will be easier to sell on. Ours is manual because we specifically wanted manual (and we will sell on to the Scottish Highlands where manual is more popular due to the winter weather). But manual does not match well with the foot operated parking brake and release handle on the dash. You get used to it but an auto-box is better for this system.

Arianne

When were the 185bhp engines introduced?

Also interested in the 'tuning box' mentioned earlier. What kind of power gains can be had on the 163bhp engine?

BTW. just registered, and this is my first post. I'm also currently looking to purchase an 18 month old D5 SE geartronic.

185bhp came out for 2006 year (aprox July/aug 2005)

2 ways of upping the power, Tune box 163 to around the 190 or ecu reprograme, 163 to 200ish, First 2 (163) Xc90's ran the tune box, 3rd one with a reprogram, which was better,
Now on a 185, with a reprogram, 220 ish from memory : )

I really like the xenon lamps that came with my D5 SE. They are so much better than Volvo's usual offerings. And they are a warrantable item as well.
