  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default oil level different from measured level??

Checked electronic dipstick and it show high oil level and says service required found manual dipstick on car bit tricky to get at and the oil is halfway up the xxxxx have I got a dodgy sensor or does it need to be filled to the top of the xxxx.bit strange as checked electronic one the other day and it was fine it is on level ground.

Leave the engine overnight and check the dipstick again ..It can take a while to reach the correct level , there is a horizontal line across the dipstick . Usualy when this happens taking out 1 litre will do the trick ... But in the volvo garage they can take a live reading directly from the sensor when the engine is running which is extremeley accurate . when they have got the actual sump level right , if this reading doesnt correspond they can reset the gauge ...

If you want to do it yourself , drain the oil , fill with 5.6 litres and within 30 miles the gauge should adapt itself and the message go . If it doesnt the calibration will be out but it is very rare for that to be the case .
