Default Keyfob not working?!

Out of the blue, my main keyfob has stopped locking/unlocking on my 57 v50. My spare works fine. I changed the battery thinking that could be the problem but turns out its not. The key will start the car, its just none of the buttons work on it. Anyone had this before??

Thanks

Happened to my wife's key - though luckily well inside warranty so got replaced gratis.

Buttons probably work in exactly same way as a computer keyboard so if it's possible to dismantle the key and wash the bit of plastic behind buttons you might make it work again. N.B. I don't think it will be very easy to do !

And now it's happened again - still to wife's (new) key !

'My' key (which OH has now hijacked ) still works perfectly; the other (replaced under warranty but now at least four years old so doubt it has any guarantee left) starts & stops engine OK but will not remotely lock/unlock or do any of the other remote functions. Not the end of the world since it's still possible to take metal key out of fob to lock/unlock but still very annoying.

Has anyone ever managed to ID the remote chip and find a replacement ?

And of course I'm not inclined to pay a dealer £100+ for a cure !

BTW, I know it's not the battery since swapping batteries leaves same fob not working but I'll try a new battery anyway.

And having tried a new battery, I'm even surer that wasn't the problem.
