V50 G/box : Geartronic Fault and 3309

HI

I have an 06 V50 D5 Geartronic which has an intermittent fault in that it clunks/harsh changing down 2nd to 1st. Only does it I guess once the car is warm and not every time.

Im hoping a ATF flush will cure it but I need to know what is the very best ATF fluid I can use for this model and does it have an external filter? Also does this gearbox require dealer softwear updates?

- An ATF flush can sometimes help, in almost all cases it does improve the gearbox but sometimes the damage has been done. It's certainly the first thing to try though.

- The very best ATF fluid is open to opinion but I'm confident in saying it would be the Volvo OEM fluid from the dealer or AMSOIL. However any JWS3309 fluid should be acceptable so long as it meets all the specs. Many on the forum have bought the MANNOL product from Germany quite cheaply (via e-bay) and Carlube/Comma variants from your local motor factors is also popular.

- Software updates are available and have been known to fix various faults but for something like this - which has just started to occur - I wouldn't be optimistic.

- After flushing the gearbox the adaptation memory should be reset and ideally the full adaptation process done. This needs appropriate diagnostic equipment though.
