Default Side Steps

Next week I am having the tower fitted because I need a towbar!

Considering having the side steps fitted. Slightly put off by the enormous cost. Had them on the old XC90 and they were useful particularly when the kids were younger. Now they are teenagers, less so. I do use a roof box but only once or twice a year and possibly excessive to have the steps just for that.

Does anyone have any views, have the steps and either regret them or think they are marvellous? Any other advantages apart from loading the roof?

Thumbs down

Only problem if you do not put your legs well out when exiting the car will end up with dirty back to trousers .

I got the side steps on mine because I have short legs. I have to use the steps to get out simply to protect my trousers! I also use them to reach the roof for washing the car.

Personally I actually think they look smart as well and add to the overall look of the car.

I have had the steps on my 2018 R Design Pro since new. They look great BUT, I am 5’ 9” so average height and they certainly make getting in/out more difficult as you cannot get your leg as close to the side of the car. My car has air suspension which I have set to ‘easy access mode’ to bring the height of the car down to make getting in/out easier. My wife is slightly shorter and finds it more difficult still.
I have not found it possible to use them to make getting in/out easier.
They would make it easier to clean roof/load a top-box.
They stop mud from kicking up the doors but they do then themselves become covered in muck on the top/edges which is then ‘cleaned off’ on your legs/trousers.
The edge lights up when you open the door, with an led strip - looks v cool but do think carefully before you proceed with these.
