Default V70 2.4 10V starting problem

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum having recently purchased a 1999 V70 2.4 10V.
The car has been running fine apart from today, The engine cranks but will not start. I've done some basic checks and there seems to be no spark from the ignition coil to the distributor. I checked the 20amp fuse in the main fuse box, which was fine. There was power at the fuse in the form of a pulse but seemed to be no power going to the ignition coil when the ignition switch on.

Any ideas gratefully received, could it be immobiliser issue?
Thanks
Anthony

In my experience an immobiliser issue shows up as the engine will fire but only very very briefly, like for a second, and then stop. Your post suggests it doesn't fire at all.

I had a similar issue. In my case it was a faulty fuel pump relay (more than a simple relay inside).

Do all of your dash warning-lights illuminate and self-check when you turn the ignition key from "0" through "1" and into "2" positions?

The switches on these Volvos control different circuits in a different ways, so a faulty ignition switch might not be switching the ignition circuit correctly when the key is turned to "3" cranking.

The electrical switch bit of the barrel is an easy job to access/replace, and the parts are freely available from various outlets.
