I had a 2010 Mondeo Titanium X Sport Estate as a company hack. It was a well built, very capable and great on a run. Compared to a V50, I’d say you couldn’t really compare them. The V50 was very manoeuvrable and due to its size, great as a round town motor but also good on a run. Adequate interior space but the seats were a little narrow. The Mondy was a good motorway car with bags of interior space plus very well kitted out. But that said, I’d have another V50 😂😂, I just like them.

Me neither as I was comparing it to a V70 P3 which it shares the same platform and some parts with
A Focus will handle better than a V50

I been reading a lot about problems with the key getting stuck in the ignition of the V50 which is up on the dash , which seems really daft to me.
I've sen the Mondeo nice car comfy but really wide. I think it would be a pain getting in and out of in car park. Plus I'm really put off my problems with the 2.0 tdci engine, my garage guy says they are problems especially as the miles mount up. So Mondeo is out. |

We've had a lot of Ford diesel pool cars and never had any issues
A contractor of ours had the small ford Transit with a diesel engine in it with 300k miles that he was regularly driving from Birmingham to Edinburgh Review of diesel engine cars here https://www.buyacar.co.uk/cars/diese...diesel-engines If you look hard enough you will always find problems somewhere.

The Mundano 2.0 tdci engine (depending on year) is exactly the same engine as in the 2.0D V50 - it's actually a Peugeot engine for which Ford created a 16 valve head. It's the Ford Duratorq (latterly Puma) 2.0D and 2.2D engine to avoid which is in many Transits, Ford Ranger, Jag X-Type, Defender. That had dialled in oil pump failure sub 100k. And yes i nmy signature I own a Ranger so I know how sh*t they are. What doesn't help is Ford call everything TDCi - whether the DW10 PSA engine, their own Duratorq or the Mazda 2.5 diesel engines they used. And if you find the Mundano too wide, you were never going to be happy with a V70...

It was still a very wide car, the sales man even said after I turned it down that a lot of people don't buy them because of that. My avenus was narrower and at times it was a tight squeeze especially as I have a mild disability and really need the door fully open. The v50 scores well on that point though as it is same width as the avenus. |

The Police have stopped using diesel BMWs for well publicised reliability issues and generally catching fire. Jag diesels (2.7, 3.0 and 2.0) are many times more likely to blow up than a Volvo D5 (look at how much the cost second hand) etc. And yes the VAG small diesel engines (2.0 and less) are generally very good by why limit suggestions to just the Polo? A Passat estate with 2.0D 150 BHP is an significantly better option than a Mundano.

Those that ran manuals had niggles with the cars but not the transmission. The company switched to Vauxhall's, I had an insignia for six months then left. Last edited by cogs; May 19th, 2023 at 14:56. |

any car is only as good as the driver and the way its driven and maintained. dsg boxes don't like stop go traffic and hard launches it will fail soon if you do any of the mentioned driving practices
