Default Unusual Idle control

Having the common issue with the 850 and its sticky idle control valve today, having inspected it ive found ive got a completely different valve to what I was expecting, all my 850's have had a silver cylinder type thing but this one is black and made by VDO, im unsure if it is even the correct part fitted as google doesn't really seem to help, ive cleaned it all out and it has made a remarkable difference but am concerned about it being the wrong one.

part number is 1271853

Never seen a VDO branded one before only, as you say, the silver/aluminum Bosch type. Have you a picture of it?

The only reference I can find is some 10v engines had this type, but it has baffled me slightly.

it wasn't as it was solid with grime, since being cleaned it seems to function as well as the silver one.
