I've no skin in this game.
The difference is with the CoC, the vehicle passport. A car delivered and handed over to the owner from new with Polestar from Volvo will have this reflected on the CoC. The car with the software added post first registration is effectively modified from the CoC, unless a new CoC is issued. Just my 2 cents why some insurance companies may charge for a 'modified' vehicle. *CoC - certificate of conformity.

Initial price was £229, guy clocked the wheels so "adding that to the policy and the system might have to charge an admin fee". But the system gave me a £18.75 refund instead and no admin fee. So total price this year was £210. I wouldn't tell them about a simple OEM remap, must have been like that when I bought it mate..

It was the same in Straya earlyish in the passenger-car turbo-diesel days, the insurers saw "turbo" and freaked out about how all these young people were going to go out & kill themselves etc. A Peugeot 405 SRDT with a THUNDERING 69kW was well over double the cost to insure as an 89kW SRI, all due to that irresponsible turbocharger thing. And it went on for ages like that, 'til the first one had enough stats to realise there was no extra risk and they could pwn the insurance market by pricing appropriately (and that it was the roadside assistance membership fees that they should have been doubling for Peugeots). |

I wouldnt bother declaring it as it could easily have been done by the PO and you would never know if it didnt have the boot badge

I note on the current insurance documents that it doesn't mention Polestar despite being mentioned in the policy quotation. Being a bit pedantic and distrusting of ins companies i did ask for a written confirmation and this was from the reply.."Thank you for your letter into our offices. We can confirm we have noted on your policy that from inception you have a Volvo Approved Polestar Optimisation Software Upgrade. This is an acceptable modification and will not affect any claims made on your policy."

That’s great well done you!
Insurance company’s are becoming a real pain to deal with. Volvo seem to be reasonable. |
