Chassis Setting Service Required
Over the weekend the "Chassis Setting Service Required" message appeared on my V70 R. This seemed to force the car to fall back to rock hard "performance" mode on the 4C suspension. Not ideal for potholed London roads.
Out came the VIDA laptop. One missing signal from a sensor. Wheel off and quick check of cables showed a very worn through cable. After a quick amazon shop for cable and self-soldering wire connectors and some cable trimming it's all good again now. These things are ace. Never seen them before. A good £20 repair rather than then 300 EUR Skandix wanted for a new sensor.

Yes Solder sleeves are good, i see all of the youtubers telling everyone how good these new inventions are, they are not new i have used them for the last 30+ years in MOD wiring work, they were first made by raychem,
Good work, Dave |

(long returning member, years ago I had a V70 2.5 audi engined one and a XC60) so now gathering service bits for my 'new' 2002 V70 D5 (previous owner had since 2011)
It's only done 15K miles in the last 10 years! (less than 3K in the last 5) so feeling my way around it, figuring a Euro 3 diesel should be at least less effected by such low usage than other cars/engines but we'll see. Too local and cheap to pass up and wanted another estate so I'm back here searching for info/advice/how to's. Thanks in advance to the forum stalwarts/unsung heroes, already watched a few D5 cambelt etc videos that I think are from posters on here, so appreciate it. I am always surprised when a Onewheel post hasn't got head lights in it ;-) Had a panic at the weekend that my acceleration sensor fix had broken something else as I has "engine system service required" and "brake assist service required" warnings appear. On getting home and hooking up VIDA I discovered a "ecm-9400 brake pedal sensor - signal too high" code stored. Unplugging the sensor, giving it a wiggle and plugging it back in seems to have resolved the issue. I did make a very school boy error a couple of weeks ago which might have caused the issue. I topped up the oil and forgot to replace the filler cap so the brake booster and other bits all got a light misting of engine oil.

Finally got around to doing another oil change, 12,500 (2.5 years) since last, is that too much.. more than I would usually but been busy lately. it wasn't totally black, still a bit brownish
anyway at the same time ran about 8.5ltrs fluid through the gearbox as well which includes about 2.5 ltrs from a quick initial drain and fill.. on the third 'gibbons' it was coming out reasonably red anyway and I figured that will do. previous replacement fluid was 3 drain and fills about 15k ago (just over 3 years) went for drive 20mins or so, got it all nicely warmed up, checked levels, all fine, no warning messages, call that a win and good for another couple of years MOT this month as well, fingers crossed but it usually goes through fine Last edited by stuart bowes; May 11th, 2024 at 16:25. |

2006 XC70.I changed the nearside dipped beam H7. What a chew to change a lamp. Need hands the size of a 3 year old and the patience of a Saint.
Removed the rear tailgate wiper motor to free off. Stripped out and cleaned up, fresh grease and now working again. Happy days. Last edited by lynns hubby; May 11th, 2024 at 17:40. |

The headlight sockets are made of the cheapest plastic imaginable. They crumble away and a replacement socket is almost always required.
Try making a tool from a piece (60-70mm long) of 35mm dowel. The dowel is similar in size to the hanger pole in a closet. Cut a wide groove such that the base of the bulb fits into it. It can be a coarse fit. The extension provided is very helpful. |
