XC60 : Dare you test City Safety and what if it fails?
I tried City Safety at the dealers but I only got one quick go. They are doing demos here in Canary Wharf at the moment and you can do it a load of times. On one try I had my hands over my eyes and the guy did the steering for me. Great fun.
Was chatting with a guy in the office and he asked if I had tried it on my car. I said no in case it doesn't work and I knacker my car :-) I am reminded of Jeremy Clarkson trying it out and crashing into the back of a BMW (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/dri...cle5330874.ece). But it got me thinking, if it didn't work, could I not charge volvo for the repairs as the car is in warranty and it should have stopped? but impossible to prove I bet and also if it doesn't work I should know now rather than thinking I am protected when I am not. Maybe a stack of cardboard boxes is in order. Or maybe a test at the dealers. Thoughts? |

Cardboard boxes sounds good to me - But then again, if you do it @ the Dealers' there will be no argument if there is an "incident"

Interesting point but I reckon you'd have to prove Volvo's negligence re City Safety not working and that would be very difficult.

Haven't tried the City Safety, but the Adaptive Cruise Control works brilliantly. Slows the car down and if the vehicle in front stops, it will then put the brakes on and will come to a stop about 10ft apart.

That's interesting. I've never tried it going to a complete stop, I turn off the ACC before that point. In fact I didn't realise it could do that, I might have to try ;-)

Not tried the Volvo version, but on the Merc, the Distronic Plus is nothing short of amazing, it really does pull ou up to a complete stop, as demonstrated by Clarkson!
And then it will pull away from standstill, as soon as you tap resume - Spookily good! Mike |
