RE: Wide Open Throttle (also posted to PCS)
I'm not sure I believe the claims there about stock filter replacement (ie: in the standard airbox). It's gotta make a differnce...even a slight one....try blowing through a K&N then a paper filter...the difference is huge.
Having said that, I think air filters are over-rated. Unless you've got injection with a lambda sensor, you'll need to have the fuelling recalibrated to match the extra air, and even then you're only talking about a slight change in BHP. I think maybe the BHP figure masks a greater tendency to give better 'throttle response'. I get very annoyed with the 'max power' mentality that bolting on an air filter constitutes tuning...as part of a engine-wide development, then it makes a lot of sense, but it's hardly good value for money when compared to slightly more expensive/fundamental modifications. Taking this to extremes, I can get a B230ET for under £100 ($200 AUS?)...a K&N plus 'calibration' on a rolling road must be at least £75....you do the maths :) cheers James
