1989 740 se
Much has changed since the last thread, therefore I thought it best to make a new one.
This car is MOT'd till the 3rd of December and Taxed till mid November (I'll confirm the tax date in the morning). For those interested, it passed its most recent MOT with compliments and no advisories. The mileage currently stands at 193,000. I bought the car with 180,000. The timing belt was replaced soon after purchase along with a change of all the vital fluids. The car has had two oil changes in my course of ownership. The coolant is the proper volvo blue. The only time the car failed to start was due to the common failure of the fuel pump relay, which was replaced with a new one from volvo. Driving wise the poly bushes have really made a positive noticeable difference to the feel. It feels much tighter, less slop and more precise. It is fitted with the 5 speed M47 gearbox which is problem free. I joke on about the 2 litre, but in reality its not that bad. It has no problem keeping up with traffic and took to the Hardknot pass in the Lake District with 5 and their camping gear on board with no problems. It's spritely enough to bring a smile to your face anyway. It was also about £400 cheaper for me to insure than the 2.3 when I was 19. Economy wise, I was doing a bit better with it around town too. The interior is very clean, there is no damage to the interior plastics apart from a small crack in the dashboard. The headliner has been removed with the intension of recovering the existing board however it fell foul to water damage in storage. Currently, if you look up you see painted metal, which in my opinion is far smarter than what you're usually greeted to in a 740. Everything electrical works apart from the drivers heated seat. Its something I never got round to looking into. The radio is the fancy one with the graphical equalizer. The electric antenna is STRAIGHT and works perfectly. Exterior wise, the car is rolling on a set of 740 turbo alloy wheels with a matching spare. All 5 tires have deep tread. There is the 740 turbo grill and a new looking set of rear light clusters. To comment on the exterior condition, the paint is good, if you look through the project thread you can see what it looks like when its polished up. There is some scratch damage to the rear of the car which can be seen in the photos. There is no corrosion on the tailgate and the car is otherwise free of dents. A towbar and electrics are fitted. The electrical socket is damaged however still works. Here's the most recent pictures, excuse the dirt, as you can see there aren't any taps nearby: Contact me either via PM or on 07757179774 The car is located in Salford, Greater Manchester, the train station is about 5 minutes away. I have a price in mind of £500. I think for the present condition of the car visually, mechanically and its tax/mot status. |
