AP replacement disc alternatives
Hello,
I've been looking for alternative replacement discs for the 325mm AP kit. The reason being that AP discs are about £430 for a pair. The following link is to the AP site and gives dimensions for their disc.. http://www.apracing.com/car/brakedis...580&code=294/5 Here is an alternative from www.compbrake.co.uk . I think these will fit OK however they are 29mm thick not 28mm. How important this is I dont know. Cost is £269 pair inclusive of vat and postage CMB 0085 ROTOR 325 X MM X 29MM THICKNESS 1.141 28.98 O/DIA 12.795 325MM FLANGE 7.48 190MM EYE 8.67 220.21MM HOLE DIA 0.250 6.4MM BOLT CENTRE 8 INCH 203.2MM BOLT FIXING 12 WEIGHT NUMBER OF VANES DIAMETER OF AIRGAP 6 GROOVES PER SIDE Another alternative is from a company called Godspeed. This is the reply I received.. I can supply you a pair of my own discs which are a direct fit to your bells for £295 delivered , all dimentions will be the same Cheers Ian So there are cheaper alternatives to AP replacement discs. But will they fit OK? Regards Simon

Probably stating the obvious, but for an easy life i would go for the £295 ones, as they state they are a direct fit and so if they dont, they you can get them to pay the return!!!
the 29mm ones look on spec to be ok, but the extra 1mm will be in one direction looking at how the hat works (ie not .5mm left and right). when you put the kit on was it a tight fit with the new pads? if worse comes to the worse you can allways take a mm of one of the pads, but if your re-using old pads i cant see there being a problem. if the only diff is the 1mm difference in thickness, i cant see there being a problem as the thickness of a disc is something that is constantly changing. but if the £265 discs do give problems, the seller may do a "told you so!!"

I must admit I hadnt thought that the discs would be off centre by 1mm a you described. However the AP kit comes with shims to centralise the disk in the calliper. So it shouldnt be a problem if I have enough shims. The calipers are rated up to 32mm thick disks.
Thanks Simon

What is the difference?
I suggest before you decide that you contact Pete Collen at AP and ask why his discs are so much more expensive.
If it's simply margin, then go for the lower-priced option; but if the steel is a better/longer-lived grade, then the low price may simply mean more frequent replacements and a higher net running cost (don't forget the cost or hassle of fitting and adjustment, even if you do do it yourself). Just like tyres, you tend to get what you pay for with other consumables. |

AP 325mm x 28mm equivalents
In case its useful to anyone here is a summary of my findings for replacement AP 325mm x28mm discs:

AP - £211 +VAT each and currently 3 weeks wait - good but cant be off the road that long Godspeed - £295 inc VAT per pair - delivered in 5 days - no personal experience but read good things on other forums about performance. Update to follow on delivery time and more importantly performance Powervane - £135 +VAT each - no personal experience and struggled to find positive comment on various forums 3G Brakes - £164.50 inc VAT each although not confirmed who these are made by as not 3G themselves Cheers Tristan
