Hi I wanted to ask a few questions, Im planning on doing an oil change and a coolant flush and the questions are:
1. I noticed the oil drain plug is like a square plug, is it a certain type of plug? and can I but it from local motor factors or halfords? 2. For the coolant flush, where do I drain all the old nasty coolant? And how? It is a 440 GL 1990 if that helps anyone Thanks in advance, btw I will post up guide of how to do once questions are answered ![]()

It's a fairly standard drain plug (17mm?), used on a lot of French cars. My local Halfords didn't have one (don't know why I still go in there before the little motor factors round the corner). The motor factor had one though.
Coolant? Disconnect the bottom hose? |

Drain plug is a french square key, worth buying the tool for removing it, only a few £££ from the motor factors, make sure and get a copper sealing ring for the sump plug along with your oil filter
![]() Coolant flush, remove both rad hoses from the engine, garen hose into the top hose and let the bottom hose run free. (I drain the coolant into a bucket but flush the rad down the nearest grating, don't tell anyone though lol) Unless your coolant is sticking I would leave well enough alone, can be a real torture to get the system bled through again if you don't know what your at.

As what Andy said above fairly straight forward enough and you can get the square key from a local motor store who know what there at.

If you happen to have an old doorhandle laying around, it's a perfect fit for the oildrainplug! Or buy the Renault tool with on one end the square for the oildrain and the other end the one for the gearboxdrain.

![]() Also, sometimes the crush washer isn't enough to prevent oil seeping past, it does no harm to wrap a little PTFE tape around the top of the thread and then slip on the copper crush washer.
