V70 R AWD 1999 Auto

Finally got my car and everythings great, except theres a little override button on my auto box. I know its for the override gear but as there is no little tell tale warning light to say when its on im not sure how it works. Is on all the time untill i presss the button or does it come when i press. Have looked in the manual but its not listed and i feel like a t**t having to ask but I need to know, can anyone help

Is the button titled, Shiftlock override?
If so then it simply overrides the solenoid that inhibits the gearlever being selected to Drive without the brake pedal depressed.
In other words if this solenoid should fail the override button allows you to get the car into gear.
